LA Kings Place Ponikarovsky On Injured Reserve, Recall Dwight King And More

EL SEGUNDO, CA — On November 16, the Los Angeles Kings placed left wing Alexei Ponikarovsky on injured reserve, retroactive to November 7. They also recalled forward Dwight King from the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League.

The thirty-year-old winger suffered a broken finger on November 6 during the Kings’ 4-1 win over the Nashville Predators at Staples Center on November 6.

In 13 games this season, Ponikarovsky has scored two goals and has contributed two assists for four points with a +2 plus/minus rating and ten penalty minutes.

The Kings also announced that forward Scott Parse is expected to miss three-to-four months due to a hip labrum injury that will require surgery, which will be performed by Dr. Thomas Byrd in Nashville, Tennessee.

Parse, who suffered a groin injury during training camp, was activated from injured reserve on November 4. He made his 2010-11 debut that night against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Kings are also expected to assign center Brayden Schenn to the Monarchs on a conditioning assignment, pending discussions with the National Hockey League.

In five games this season, Parse has scored a goal and has tallied three assists for four points with a +5 rating.

Schenn, 19, has one year of junior hockey eligibility with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League, and under normal circumstances, he could only be returned to the Wheat Kings.

King, 21, has played in 16 games with the Monarchs this season, scoring six goals and adding five assists for eleven points, ranking second on the team in overall scoring.

The 6-3, 227-pound native of Meadowlake, Saskatchewan was selected by the Kings in the fourth round (109th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

King will wear jersey number 74.
