Youthful Kings Outclassed At Shark Tank

Alexander Frolov scored on the power play at 6:34 of the first period, but that would be the last time anyone would hear from the Los Angeles Kings the rest of the way, as the San Jose Sharks dominated from that point on and had an easy time handing the Kings a 3-1 loss in front of 17,496 fans at HP Pavilion in San Jose on Saturday night in the Kings’ 2008-09 opener.

After Frolov scored, the Sharks turned up the heat on the young Kings, who wilted under the pressure, generating just 13 shots on goal in the game.

Devin Setoguchi scored just 1:12 into the second period. Tomas Plihal added a shorthanded goal at 17:49 to give the Sharks a 2-1 after two periods.

Joe Pavelski scored at 1:03 of the third period to close out the scoring.

Evgeni Nabokov enjoyed a night off of sorts between the pipes for Sharks, allowing a goal on the handful of shots he faced.

Jason LaBarbera allowed three goals on 41 shots faced.

The two teams meet again on Sunday at Staples Center (6:00 PM PDT, televised on FSN West).
