LA Kings Place Three On Team USA For 2010 Winter Olympics

BOSTON AND EL SEGUNDO, CA — On January 1, USA Hockey announced their men’s hockey team for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver (February 16-28, 2010), and the Los Angeles Kings will have three players, right wing Dustin Brown, defenseman Jack Johnson and goaltender Jonathan Quick, on the team.

Johnson, 22, has never participated in the Olympics before, but has represented the United States in international competition several times.

At the 2009 World Championships, the 6-0, 218-pound native of Indianapolis, Indiana scored five goals and contributed two assists for seven points in nine games. His five goals led all defensemen in the tournament and tied for fifth overall while his seven points tied him for fourth most among defensemen in the tournament. Read more of this post


LA Kings Defenseman Drew Doughty Named To Team Canada For 2010 Winter Olympics

]SASKATOON, SK AND EL SEGUNDO, CA — On December 30, Hockey Canada announced its roster for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty has been selected to represent Canada in the tournament.

Doughty, 20, will represent Canada at the Olympics for the first time, but has played for Canada in the 2009 World Championships (won the Silver medal – 9 games played, 1-6=7, with his seven points tied for fourth among defensemen in the tournament and his six assists third most among defensemen in the tournament and tied for eighth overall); at the 2008 World Junior Championships (Gold medal – 7 GP, 0-4=4, was named Top Defenseman of the tournament); the 2007 World Junior Under-18 Championships and the 2006 World Junior Under-17 Championships.

“This means a lot to me,” said Doughty. “I didn’t expect to make the team. I’m just ecstatic.It’s a dream come true and to be able to play in Vancouver makes it that much better. I’m happy to be a part of the team in any way, shape or form.” Read more of this post

LA Kings: Handzus To Play For Slovakia In 2010 Winter Olympics; Jonathan Bernier To Start In 2010 AHL All-Star Game

EL SEGUNDO, CA AND SPRINGFIELD, MA — On December 30, the Los Angeles Kings announced that center Michal Handzus will represent Slovakia in the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. Later in the day, the American Hockey League announced that the Manchester Monarchs (Kings primary minor league affiliate) goaltender Jonathan Bernier will be the starter in goal for the Canadian AHL All-Star team in the 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic.
