<LOS ANGELES — Alec Martinez scored a power play goal in the first period, Jeff Carter added another with time winding down in the third period, and Anze Kopitar finally recorded his first assist of the season, but it wasn’t enough, as the Los Angeles Kings dropped a 3-2 decision to the Columbus Blue Jackets at Staples Center on Thursday night.
The Kings got off to a sloppy start, but played well in the second period, preventing the Blue Jackets from recording a shot on goal in the period. But Columbus took over in the third, taking a 3-1 lead before Carter’s late goal with netminder Jonathan Quick on the bench for the extra attacker.
