LOS ANGELES — Matt Greene scored just 32 seconds into the first period to give the Los Angeles Kings an early lead in their matinee game against the Nashville Predators at Staples Center in Los Angeles on January 3, but that only served to cover up another poor start, one in which they did little after Greene’s goal until they were looking way up at a 5-1 deficit.
Despite the poor start and being badly outplayed in the first period, not to mention the first six minutes of the second, the Kings came roaring back with two goals in the second period and three more in the third to tie the game 6-6. But a defensive breakdown, one of several in the game, cost the Kings in overtime, as Predators defenseman Roman Josi was all alone in the slot and had an easy wrist shot goal just 18 seconds into overtime to win the game for Nashville, 7-6.
