EL SEGUNDO, CA — On December 17, one day after a disastrous 5-2 loss at St. Louis, the final game of a dreadful five-game road trip, the Los Angeles Kings held an optional skate at their practice facility, the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo, California.

With their top players struggling, except for winger Marian Gaborik, who appears to be heating up, one might expect the Kings to be focused on their offense. But that was not the case at all.

Head coach Darryl Sutter talked about the lack of production from his top players, but winger Dustin Brown focused on his team’s defensive efforts as being at the root of their problems.
