EL SEGUNDO, CA — After falling asleep at the wheel in the third period in Game 1 of their annual Rookie Tournament against the Phoenix Coyotes, the Los Angeles Kings redeemed themselves with a 4-3 victory in Game 2 on Thursday afternoon at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo, California, the Kings’ practice facility.
The Kings rookies big line of Brandon Kozun, Linden Vey and Jordan Nolan accounted for most of the Kings’ scoring, accounting for three of their four goals, including two by Nolan, and four assists.
Center Jordan Weal also scored for the Kings rookies.
Nolan’s second goal capped a five-on-three power play in the waning seconds of the game, giving the Kings rookies their margin of victory.
Martin Jones, who faced eleven shots, played in goal during the first and second periods, allowing just one goal, even though it was a soft one that deflected into the net off his skate on a puck thrown towards the net from the left corner.
Michael Morrison, who was invited to the Kings rookie camp on tryout basis, played in the third period, allowing two goals on nine shots.
