Jarret Stoll and Anze Kopitar scored power play goals and Michal Handzus scored the shootout game-winner to lead the Los Angeles Kings to a 3-2 win over the Minnesota Wild at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul on October 25.
John Madden and Nick Schultz gave the Wild a 2-0 lead early in the first period, but the Wild began a parade to the penalty box that extended into the second period, putting the Kings on the power play time and time again.
Stoll scored at the 18:37 mark, ripping a wrist shot into the upper left corner of the net from below the left face-off dot to cut the Minnesota lead in half.
Kopitar scored with 18 seconds left in the second period, with the Kings on a two-man advantage.
The game went into overtime and a shootout, with Handzus getting the game-winner.
Niklas Backstrom was strong in goal for the Wild, stopping 32 shots while Jonathan Quick made twenty saves.
Kings right wing and team captain Dustin Brown received a major penalty and automatic game misconduct at 8:12 of the second period when he hit Wild forward Antti Miettinen, who was taking a shot near the top of the right circle.
Brown came across from left to right, and, according to video replay, appeared to make contact with Miettinen’s left shoulder, but referee Wes McCauley ruled that Brown made contact with Miettinen’s head, resulting in the penalty.
