EL SEGUNDO, CA — On March 31, the Los Angeles Kings signed unrestricted free agent forward Ray Kaunisto to a two-year entry-level contract.
Kaunisto, 23, just completed his senior year at Northern Michigan University, scoring eighteen goals and adding fourteen assists for 32 points with 78 penalty minutes in forty games. The 6-4, 185-pound native of Sault, Ste. Marie, Michigan was tied for eighth in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) in goals while helping lead the Wildcats to a 20-13-8 record and a NCAA playoff berth.
In four seasons with the Wildcats, Kaunisto scored 36 goals and tallied 26 assists for 62 points with 208 penalty minutes in 161 games.
Before joining the Wildcats, Kaunisto played parts of three seasons with Cedar Rapids of the United States Hockey League and with Soo of the North American Hockey League.
