EL SEGUNDO, CA — On July 15, the Los Angeles Kings signed defenseman prospect Joe Piskula to a one-year contract. The Kings, along with the National Hockey League, also announced their 2009-10 regular season schedule.
The financial terms of Piskula’s deal were not disclosed.
The 25-year-old native of Antigo, Wisconsin recorded twelve assists, a team-leading +11 plus/minus rating and forty penalty minutes in 67 games with the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League (Kings’ primary minor league affiliate). In 55 games with the Monarchs in the 2007-08 season, Piskula recorded six assists and 57 penalty minutes.
In four playoff games with the Monarchs last season, Piskula did not record a point.
The 6-3. 212-pound blue liner was originally signed by the Kings as an unrestricted free agent on March 21, 2007. He made his NHL debut with the Kings on March 23, 2007 and in five NHL games with the Kings, he has no points with six penalty minutes.
