LA Kings Jeff Carter Will Represent Canada At 2014 Olympics In Sochi

LOS ANGELES — On January 7, Los Angeles Kings defensemen Drew Doughty and Slava Voynov, along with forward Jeff Carter, were named to their national teams that will compete at the XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia next month.

The 2014 Olympic men’s hockey tournament runs from February 12 – 23, 2014.

Voynov will represent Russia, while Doughty and Carter will play for Canada.

LA Kings Left Wing Ryan Smyth Suffers Fractured Ankle At 2010 World Championships

CALGARY, AB — On May 10, HockeyCanada announced that left wing Ryan Smyth of the Los Angeles Kings suffered a foot injury that will force him to miss the remainder of the 2010 IIHF World Championship tournament in Germany.

The injury was later determined to be a fractured ankle.

“I was in practice, driving to the net,” Smyth told TSN. “I stopped at the net and rolled over on my ankle. I thought it was just a minor sprain. But I had an MRI this morning and learned that it was a fracture.” Read more of this post

LA Kings Olympians Chomping At The Bit For Tournament To Begin

LOS ANGELES — With the 2010 Olympic Winter Games now in full swing, the hockey world is now focused on Vancouver and, more specifically, on the men’s Olympic hockey tournament beginning today.

Five Los Angeles Kings players are in Vancouver, including right wing Dustin Brown (United States), defenseman Drew Doughty (Canada), center Michal Handzus (Slovakia), defenseman Jack Johnson and goaltender Jonathan Quick (USA), and they are chomping at the bit, raring to go.

“I couldn’t wait for it to happen,” Doughty said about the Olympic tournament. “It’s been in the back of my mind even though my main focus is the Kings. I can’t wait to get to Vancouver and get the games going.”

Speaking of being unable to wait, Johnson left the Kings with permission on February 12 to participate in the Opening Ceremonies. Read more of this post
