Los Angeles Kings – San Jose Sharks: Supplementary Discipline For Raffi Torres Won’t Be An Easy Call

LOS ANGELES — Slava Voynov scored a goal and added an assist, Mike Richards scored a goal, and Jonathan Quick stopped 34 shots to lead the Los Angeles Kings to a 2-0 victory over the San Jose Sharks in Game 1 of their Western Conference Semifinal series, in front of a sell-out crowd of 18,118 fans at Staples Center on May 14.

With the win, the Kings have a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. Game 2 is scheduled for May 16 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, 7:00 PM PDT.

The Sharks came out flying early in the first period, aided by an interference penalty on Kings defenseman Jake Muzzin at the 5:23 mark.

Sutter, Martinez Relieve Tension In LA Kings Dressing Room With Cinco de Mayo-Related Joke

EL SEGUNDO, CA — As the media waited near the Los Angeles Kings’ dressing room area door at the their practice facility on Sunday morning, something rather unusual caught our eyes.

As some of the Kings’ players walked to the ice surface for an optional skate, one was very different from the rest, wearing a green practice jersey, a white sock on one leg, and a red one on the other.

But here’s the kicker…that player was also wearing a sombrero as he walked by, immediately drawing laughter from the media, and soon after, fans at the Toyota Sports Center, as defenseman Alec Martinez skated onto the ice.

St. Louis Blues Present A Different Challenge For LA Kings This Time Around

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Kings qualified for the 2013 post-season party as the fifth seed in the Western Conference, and will face the St. Louis Blues in the first round, with Game 1 in St. Louis tonight (5:00 PM PDT, televised in Southern California on Prime Ticket).

For those who may still have the Kings’ sweep of the Blues in the second round of last season’s playoffs on their minds and believe that the Kings will enjoy similar success this time around, you can forget about that.

In fact, the Blues are likely to give the Kings a serious run for the money, and they have a good chance of winning the series, even though the Kings dominated the Blues in head-to-head competition during the regular season, sweeping the three games and outscoring them 14-7 in those contests.

LOS ANGELES — Jeff Carter scored a goal and added an assist, and Jonathan Quick made 23 saves to lead the Los Angeles Kings to a 4-1 victory over the sluggish Edmonton Oilers in front of a sell-out crowd of 18,118 fans at Staples Center in Los Angeles during a matinee affair on April 6.

Mike Richards opened the scoring just 1:38 into the first period when he took a pass from Carter after a solid forechecking shift. Wide open in the slot, Richards fired a one-timer that beat Oilers goaltender Devyn Dubnyk just inside the left goal post.
