EL SEGUNDO, CA — One day after their 4-3 loss at San Jose, a game in which defensive lapses and turnovers proved too costly, the Los Angeles Kings, who are in the midst of a 17-games-in-31-days stretch this month, held an optional skate.

Most of the players took the opportunity to practice, but several key players, including Dustin Brown, Jeff Carter, Drew Doughty, Anze Kopitar, Rob Scuderi, Jarret Stoll, and Slava Voynov used the time to rest and recover.

After practice, the big hit by San Jose Sharks center Andrew Desjardins on Kings center Colin Fraser early in the second period at San Jose, along with the response by Kings rookie defenseman Jake Muzzin, was the main topic of discussion.

Hockey In Southern California Would Be A Shell Of Its Current Self Without Dr. Jerry Buss

LOS ANGELES — As has been reported across the Los Angeles area, Dr. Jerry Buss, owner of the National Basketball Association’s Los Angeles Lakers, died on February 18, due to complications of cancer, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Buss was 80 years old.

“Dr. Buss was our partner, our mentor and our friend,” said President and Chief Executive Officer of the Anschutz Entertainment Group Tim Leiweke, who also serves as Governor of the Los Angeles Kings. “He was kind enough to allow us into his world, and much of the success we enjoyed at Staples Center and LA Live is directly attributed to him. I do not believe we will ever find anyone quite like him. Our prayers and thoughts are with Jeanie and the entire Buss family.”

ONTARIO, CA — While the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players Association continue to waste everyone’s time with ridiculous, embarrassing posturing and bickering, players have gone overseas to play in European leagues and Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), while others have managed to sign on with minor league teams in North America.

For Minnesota Wild right wing Devin Setoguchi, a native of Taber, Alberta, joining the ECHL’s Ontario Reign was a move that came easy and naturally.
