Redemption In The Desert: Kings Shutout Coyotes, 4-0

One can imagine Los Angeles Kings head coach Terry Murray sitting in the coaches room with a big smile on his face tonight.

Indeed, after a less-than-lackluster effort in a 2-1 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes at Staples Center on Friday night, the Kings, from the players to the coaches, all talked about coming to the rink prepared to play, both mentally and physically and putting in a solid, sixty-minute effort, something they failed to do on Friday night.

Holiday Wishes For The Los Angeles Kings?

On Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Kings had one of their wishes come true…on the strength of first period goals by Raitis Ivanans and Patrick O’Sullivan, a third-period marker by Peter Harrold and 24 saves by rookie goaltender Jonathan Quick, they broke their four-game winless streak (0-2-2) with a 3-0 shutout win over the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena in Columbus.

Add to that the Vezina Trophy candidate play that Evgeni Nabokov is giving the Sharks in goal in just about every game and it is easy to see why the Sharks have locked up first place in the Pacific Division.

But all streaks come to an end. But what was almost unbelievable was who ended it…none other than the lowly Los Angeles Kings the worst team in the National Hockey League going into Thursday’s action.

Anze Kopitar scored two goals, Brian Willsie and Raitis Ivanans added a goal each and Erik Ersberg made 32 saves to lead the Kings to a 4-2 win over the Sharks in front of 17,759 fans at Staples Center on Thursday night. Read more of this post
