Frozen Royalty Audio: LA Kings Finally Break Through 3-Goal Wall In 4-3 Win Over Phoenix

LOS ANGELES — It took them 15 games, but the Los Angeles Kings finally scored three goals in a game on Monday night, defeating the Phoenix Coyotes, 4-3, in front of a sell-out crowd of 18,118 fans at Staples Center.

The last time the Kings scored three goals (in regulation time or overtime, not in a shootout) in a game was on November 22, a 3-2 victory at St. Louis. From that point forward, until Monday night, the Kings never scored more than two regulation/overtime goals, earning a poor 5-7-2 record over that span, two of the wins the result of shootouts. 2011 LA Kings Training Camp: Andrei Loktionov Clears The Air While Thomas Hickey, Tyler Toffoli Turn Heads

EL SEGUNDO, CA — The Los Angeles Kings have completed nine on-ice days of their 2011 Training Camp, and, with their third pre-season game coming up tonight against the Anaheim Ducks (6:30 PM PDT, Staples Center), two of their young prospects have already turned some heads.

Center prospect Tyler Toffoli, the Kings’ second round selection (47th overall) in the 2010 National Hockey League Entry Draft, has taken some big steps forward in his development over the past year, enough to win the scoring title in the Ontario Hockey League with 57 goals and 51 assists for 108 points in 68 regular season games with the Ottawa 67’s.

Although the 19-year-old native of Scarborough, Ontario got off to a bit of a slow start in the split-squad pre-season game at Phoenix on September 21, Toffoli was able to turn things up as the game went on. Read more of this post

Frozen Royalty Audio: LA Kings Split Their Split-Squad Exhibition Openers Against Phoenix

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Kings earned a split in their split-squad, pre-season openers against the Phoenix Coyotes with a 3-2 win at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Arizona, and a 2-1 shootout loss at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

In Glendale, Tyler Toffoli scored a goal and added an assist, Trevor Lewis contributed three assists, and Dustin Penner scored the game-winning goal at 19:11 of the third period to lead the Kings to the win.

Ethan Moreau also scored for the Kings. Keith Yandle and Shane Doan scored for the Coyotes. Read more of this post

LA Kings 2011 Training Camp: Time To Start Thinking About The Stanley Cup

EL SEGUNDO, CA — Day Four of the Los Angeles Kings’ 2011 Training Camp came and went with nothing new in the Drew Doughty Saga, as the 21-year-old defenseman continues to be a contract holdout, with no end to the standoff in sight.

What was new at training camp was preparations for the team’s first pre-season games—split-squad affairs on Wednesday, September 21, at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Arizona, and at Staples Center in Los Angeles, both games against the Phoenix Coyotes.

Forward Scott Parse will play on a line with Kyle Clifford on left wing and Jarret Stoll at center in the game at Staples Center, and head coach Terry Murray will be watching him with great interest since Parse missed virtually all of last year due to a hip injury that required surgery. Frozen Royalty Audio: Phoenix Coyotes vs. Los Angeles Kings – Rookie Tournament 2011, Game 2

EL SEGUNDO, CA — After falling asleep at the wheel in the third period in Game 1 of their annual Rookie Tournament against the Phoenix Coyotes, the Los Angeles Kings redeemed themselves with a 4-3 victory in Game 2 on Thursday afternoon at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo, California, the Kings’ practice facility.

The Kings rookies big line of Brandon Kozun, Linden Vey and Jordan Nolan accounted for most of the Kings’ scoring, accounting for three of their four goals, including two by Nolan, and four assists.

Center Jordan Weal also scored for the Kings rookies.

Nolan’s second goal capped a five-on-three power play in the waning seconds of the game, giving the Kings rookies their margin of victory. Read more of this post
