LA Kings Get Salary Cap Relief For Slava Voynov Suspension

LOS ANGELES — Just one day after the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office charged Los Angeles Kings defenseman Slava Voynov with one felony count of “corporal injury to spouse with great bodily injury” to his wife, Marta Varlamova, the National Hockey League announced that the Kings will get salary cap relief for Voynov’s salary.

In a press release, the league announced, “The National Hockey League announced today that the existing terms of its suspension of Los Angeles Kings’ Player Slava Voynov will be continued indefinitely.”

LA Kings D Slava Voynov Now Faces Felony Domestic Violence Charge

LOS ANGELES — On November 20, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office announced that Los Angeles Kings defenseman Slava Voynov has been charged with one felony count of “corporal injury to spouse with great bodily injury” to his wife, Marta Varlamova.

Voynov was arrested during the early morning hours of October 20, but had not been charged until Thursday.

As reported in this space on October 20, according to a press release from the Redondo Beach Police Department, their officers responded to a call at approximately 11:25 PM on October 19 of a “…possible family fight at a residence in the area of the 800 block of Avenue C” in Redondo Beach, Lieutenant Joe Hoffman said in the release.

Hoffman went on to say that “a female could be heard screaming for the past twenty minutes and could now be heard crying.”

Voynov Attorney: “There Was No Crime Here;” D.A. Wants “Additional Follow-Up”

LOS ANGELES — As first reported by Ken Campbell of The Hockey News on October 22, the attorney for Los Angeles Kings defenseman Slava Voynov has stated that he doubts that his client has committed a crime, despite having been arrested by Redondo Beach Police on October 20 on suspicion of violating California Penal Code section 273.5(a) – Domestic Violence.

“It’s clear to me there was no crime here,” attorney Craig Renetsky told The Hockey News.

Campbell wrote that Renetzky told him that a language barrier on the parts of Voynov and the alleged victim, “created a misunderstanding and that the victim’s injuries that caused her to be hospitalized were the result of an accident.”

LOS ANGELES — Various sources are reporting that, as expected, the Los Angeles County District Attorney has declined to file charges against Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty, who was under investigation for sexual assault.
