Frozen Royalty Audio: Los Angeles Kings Prepare For 2011-12 Home Opener

EL SEGUNDO, CA —The Los Angeles Kings are back from their four-game, European/East Coast trip to start their 2011-12 season, and they were hard at work at practice on October 17, 2011, at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo, California.

Left wing Dustin Penner, who suffered what was called a knee contusion during the first period at Philadelphia on October 15, left the ice after about twenty minutes. He went to see Kings doctors for an evaluation.

Defenseman Slava Voynov, who was recalled from the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League on October 16, due to an apparent shoulder injury suffered by defenseman Drew Doughty at Philadelphia (he was placed on injured reserve), practiced with the team and was paired with defenseman Willie Mitchell.

Voynov is expected to see a lot of ice time on October 18, when the Kings host the St. Louis Blues in their home opener. Read more of this post

LA Kings Open 2011-12 Season With 3-2 OT Win Over New York Rangers On NHL Video

The Los Angeles Kings got the new season off to a roaring start with a 3-2 overtime victory over the New York Rangers in Stockholm, Sweden as part the NHL Premiere Series.

Center Anze Kopitar opened the scoring for the Kings at 10:51 of the first period, after right wing Justin Williams picked up a loose puck inside the Rangers blue line. He skated through the left circle before tossing a saucer pass across to Kopitar, who one-timed his shot from just below the right face-off dot, beating Rangers netminder Henrik Lundqvist top shelf, just inside the right goal post. 2011-12 Los Angeles Kings Could Contend For Pacific Division, Western Conference Titles

2011-12 LOS ANGELES KINGS PREVIEW: The 2011-12 National Hockey League season begins tonight with the first three games of the season. Even though the Los Angeles Kings have another day before they begin the new season, let’s take an in-depth look at the team and their outlook for 2011-12.

EL SEGUNDO, CA — After a few seasons of rebuilding from scratch, followed by a couple of years of building upon that foundation, the Los Angeles Kings are at a unique point in their 44-year history, one in which they are on the verge of becoming a legitimate Stanley Cup contender, not to mention a perennial winner.

In other words, after five seasons, the Kings are right where Dean Lombardi hoped they would be when he laid out his plan for the franchise after taking over as President/General Manager of the team in April 2006.

2011 LA Kings Training Camp: Scott Parse May Be Playing Himself Out Of A Job

EL SEGUNDO, CA — With left wing Dustin Penner looking strong and fit, with center Anze Kopitar and right wing Justin Williams experiencing no difficulties coming off late-season injuries, and with little concern about chemistry developing between forwards Dustin Brown, Simon Gagne and Mike Richards, the microscope has now focused on the Los Angeles Kings’ third and fourth lines during their 2011 Training Camp, which is entering its twelfth day on the ice. LA Kings 2011 Training Camp: Time To Start Thinking About The Stanley Cup

EL SEGUNDO, CA — Day Four of the Los Angeles Kings’ 2011 Training Camp came and went with nothing new in the Drew Doughty Saga, as the 21-year-old defenseman continues to be a contract holdout, with no end to the standoff in sight.

What was new at training camp was preparations for the team’s first pre-season games—split-squad affairs on Wednesday, September 21, at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Arizona, and at Staples Center in Los Angeles, both games against the Phoenix Coyotes.

Forward Scott Parse will play on a line with Kyle Clifford on left wing and Jarret Stoll at center in the game at Staples Center, and head coach Terry Murray will be watching him with great interest since Parse missed virtually all of last year due to a hip injury that required surgery. EL SEGUNDO, CA — The Los Angeles Kings hit the ice for the first time during their 2011 Training Camp on Saturday, September 17, and, unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, or vacationing in a desolate, primitive area, isolated from the hockey world, you know that defenseman Drew Doughty is in the midst of a contract dispute with the Kings, and is now a holdout.

Indeed, the 21-year-old defenseman was nowhere to be found when the Kings hit the ice at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo, California, their practice facility.

With no end in sight in the Doughty saga, the story was not just his absence, but who might fill his skate boots should he continue to holdout.

“The plans [for training camp] do not change at all,” said head coach Terry Murray. “We’re going to miss Doughty. I wish he was here to be a part of it. He’s a very important player, he’s a big part of the locker room, and a fun guy to be around. He’s a great player for us, but the plans do not change for the training camp. We have to get ready for the start of the year.” Read more of this post
