LOS ANGELES AND EL SEGUNDO, CA — Although the Los Angeles Kings are ranked fifth in the Western Conference heading into action on March 9, consistency has not been their strong suit through 22 games in this abbreviated season.

Although they have won nine out of thelr last twelve games, all one has to do is look at their sluggish 3-5-2 start, some incomplete efforts, and games in which the defensive blunders are glaring, and it leads one to question just how far this team can go this season.

EL SEGUNDO, CA — When the Los Angeles Kings signed rugged, checking winger Ethan Moreau to a one-year, unrestricted free agent contract on August 20, 2011, the expectation was that he would bring energy, physical play, solid forechecking and strong defensive play to the Kings’ third and fourth lines.

The 36-year-old, 6-3, 223-pound native of Huntsville, Ontario, a former captain of the Edmonton Oilers, also brings veteran leadership, and years of National Hockey League experience.

But so far this season, Moreau has played well in spurts, but has not given the Kings anywhere near enough of what is needed or expected.

“His role is basically to be that fourth line left winger—grit, size, experience, and to give us that harder game, and that’s been there…in and out,” said head coach Terry Murray. “But there’s been times that it’s been very good, and I think, in the last couple of games, I’ve seen more of it [from him while playing with right wing Kevin] Westgarth and [center Colin] Fraser, and that’s stuff that we need.” Read more of this post

Frozen Royalty Audio And NHL Video: LA Kings Still On Top After Rough 3-1 Win Over Dallas

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Kings find themselves on top of the National Hockey League’s Western Conference standings and second in the overall league standings after winning their fifth straight game and seventh straight game at home, a 3-1 victory over the Dallas Stars on November 11 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Dustin Brown got the Kings on the board with his seventh goal of the season at 6:13 of the first period, cleaning up a sloppy rebound left in the crease by Stars goaltender Kari Lehtonen.

Stars forward Jamie Benn made Kings star defenseman Drew Doughty look bad by easily lifting Doughty’s stick from behind, and then going in alone on Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick to tie the game at the 17:04 mark. Read more of this post
