LOS ANGELES — As reported in this space earlier today, the National Hockey League’s 2014 Stadium Series: Los Angeles at iconic Dodger Stadium was a grand slam home run for the league, whether or not you were happy with the the fact that the Anaheim Ducks handed the Los Angeles Kings a 3-0 defeat in the game last night.

Although photographer David Sheehan was not a big enough fish in the NHL’s pond to get a coveted photo position on the glass for the game, he managed to get some good photos of the festitivies, which you can see below.

LOS ANGELES — So many said that it couldn’t be done.

Just as many laughed derisively while insisting that the rink would turn into a swimming pool by the end of the first period.

Thousands upon thousands just shook their heads, muttering something about there being no real hockey fans in Southern California, and that Dodger Stadium would be mostly empty.

As evidenced by the sellout crowd at Dodger Stadium on January 25 for Stadium Series: Los Angeles, the naysayers were wrong.

LOS ANGELES — On January 24, the eve of the 2014 Stadium Series: Los Angeles, both the Los Angeles Kings and the Anaheim Ducks skated on Dodger Stadium ice for the first time, with the home team getting the first practice time at 4:00 PM.

It was a typical practice for the Kings, in terms of them doing line rushes, and a few drills. LOS ANGELES — If you listen to a lot of hockey fans in Canada, back east, and in other cold climates, they not only wonder how an ice hockey game could possibly be played outdoors in sunny Southern California, but many claim that by game time, the rink will be a swimming pool, not an ice rink.

But thanks to the National Hockey League ice guru, Dan Craig, and his staff, the ice will be just fine by the time the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings face-off on Saturday for their Stadium Series game at Dodger Stadium.

Nevertheless, skeptics and doubters abound. But all one has to do is look back in history to September 27, 1991, when the Kings hosted the New York Rangers in a game played on an outdoor parking lot at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada.
