Loss To Vancouver Canucks Forces LA Kings To Gamble On Brayden Schenn

EL SEGUNDO, CA — After watching their team lose their poise—the Los Angeles Kings were dominated throughout long stretches of a 3-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks in Vancouver on March 31—the Kings brain trust has come to the realization that their team will not last long in the Stanley Cup Playoffs without help up front.

As a result, on April 1, the Kings recalled top center prospect Brayden Schenn, under emergency conditions, from the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League, a team that is expected to go deep into the WHL playoffs and make it to the Memorial Cup finals.

Saskatoon and the Prince Albert Raiders are tied in their first round playoff series, 2-2.

“We’re going to miss Brayden terribly,” said Blades general manager and head coach Lorne Molleken. “He’s a very special player. But at the same time, we’re absolutely thrilled that he’s getting a chance to play the game at the NHL level, and help the LA Kings in their playoff run.” Read more of this post

2010 NHL Entry Draft: LA Kings To Select 19th In The First Round

DRAFT COVERAGE: Frozen Royalty continues its coverage of the 2010 National Hockey League Entry Draft with a look at what prospects the Los Angeles Kings could be looking at when their time on the clock comes up during the first round.

LOS ANGELES — Just about every year at the National Hockey League Entry Draft, there are one or two players who stand out above all the rest, considered to be the top prizes in that year’s draft class. Indeed, the 2010 class is no exception, with forwards Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin considered to be the cream of the crop.

Hall and Seguin are locks to be selected with the first and second picks (Edmonton has the first selection and Boston owns the second overall pick) at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, which begins with the first round on Friday, June 25, 2010, at Staples Center in Los Angeles (4:00 PM PDT). After that, the draft is often one big crapshoot in terms who gets selected after that, and that will be the case once again this year. Read more of this post

LA Kings Prospect Brandon Kozun Wins WHL Scoring Title

CALGARY, AB — On March 14, Calgary Hitmen forward and Los Angeles Kings forward prospect Brandon Kozun locked up the Bob Clarke Trophy as the Western Hockey League’s leading scorer by contributing four assists in the Hitmen’s 8-1 blowout victory over the Red Deer Rebels in Calgary.

The 5-8, 155-pound native of Los Angeles scored 32 goals and added 75 assists for 107 points in 64 games. Runner-up Jordan Eberle of the Regina Pats scored fifty goals and added 56 assists for 106 points. Read more of this post
