Frozen Royalty Video: Doughty, Penner, Quick Help LA Kings Escape With 2-1 Win Over St. Louis To Win Series in Six Games

LOS ANGELES — Drew Doughty and Dustin Penner scored goals, while Jonathan Quick stopped 21 shots to lead the Los Angeles Kings to a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues in Game 6 of their Western Conference Quarterfinal playoff series.

With the win, the Kings eliminated the Blues, four games to two.

Doughty opened the scoring at 12:37 of the first period on a wrist shot from the left circle. On the play, after taking a drop pass from center Colin Fraser, Doughty faked a slap shot, and then used Blues defenseman Roman Polak as a screen before letting go with a wrist shot that beat Blues goaltender Brian Elliott high, just inside the left goal post.

St. Louis Blues Present A Different Challenge For LA Kings This Time Around

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Kings qualified for the 2013 post-season party as the fifth seed in the Western Conference, and will face the St. Louis Blues in the first round, with Game 1 in St. Louis tonight (5:00 PM PDT, televised in Southern California on Prime Ticket).

For those who may still have the Kings’ sweep of the Blues in the second round of last season’s playoffs on their minds and believe that the Kings will enjoy similar success this time around, you can forget about that.

In fact, the Blues are likely to give the Kings a serious run for the money, and they have a good chance of winning the series, even though the Kings dominated the Blues in head-to-head competition during the regular season, sweeping the three games and outscoring them 14-7 in those contests.

Frozen Royalty Audio/Video: LA Kings Come From Behind To Beat St. Louis, 6-4

LOS ANGELES — Jake Muzzin scored two goals and tallied an assist to lead the Los Angeles Kings to a come-from-behind 6-4 victory over the St. Louis Blues in front of a sell-out crowd of 18,118 fans at Staples Center on March 5.

Blues defenseman Alex Pietrangelo opened the scoring at 15:09 of the first period, and he jumped up into the play after the Kings coughed up the puck behind their own net. Pietrangelo ended up in the left corner, where he tried to throw the puck in front to forward David Perron, who drove hard to the front of the net when the Kings turned the puck over. Kings defenseman Slava Voynov tried to fight off Perron, but the puck deflected off Voynov and into the net.
