2013 Sunset Sip Event To Benefit The Guidance Center In Long Beach

EL SEGUNDO, CA — On August 1, the Los Angeles Kings, The Guidance Center, and the Los Angeles Kings Alumni Association announced that the third annual Sunset Sip event, hosted by Kings former right wing and current television color commentator Jim Fox, will be held on Friday, September 6, 2013, from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM, at the offices at Keesal, Young and Logan, in Long Beach, California.

Proceeds from the event will benefit The Guidance Center, which “has been leading children and families to a brighter future for more than 60 years,” according to a statement. “They provide quality mental health care to more than 2,000 children and families each year in the communities of Long Beach, Compton/Lynwood, San Pedro and Avalon on Catalina Island.”

“The Guidance Center provides comprehensive mental health treatment to the community’s most disadvantaged children and their families struggling with mental illness and abuse, leading them toward a positive and productive future,” the statement continued. “The Guidance Center envisions a community where all children have the help they need to be healthy and happy. “

EL SEGUNDO, CA — With the Detroit Red Wings eliminating the Anaheim Ducks with a 3-2 victory in Game 7 of their Western Conference Quarterfinal playoff series, the next round of the playoffs in the West is set.

The two Western Conference Semifinal series will feature the top-seeded Chicago Blackhawks against the number seven seed Red Wings, and the fifth-seeded Los Angeles Kings versus the sixth-seeded San Jose Sharks.

Lack Of Finish May Be The Only Reason St. Louis Blues Failed To Get Past LA Kings

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Kings had the day off on May 11, the day after they defeated the St. Louis Blues, 2-1, in Game 6 of their Western Conference Quarterfinal playoff series.

After dropping the first two games of the series, the Kings came back to win four straight, eliminating the Blues in six games.

It was a brutal, physical series, one that featured lots of tight checking, a battle for every inch of ice on every shift, and 479 hits between the two teams.

“We’re beat up and tired,” Kings head coach Darryl Sutter said after Game 6.

Frozen Royalty Video: Doughty, Penner, Quick Help LA Kings Escape With 2-1 Win Over St. Louis To Win Series in Six Games

LOS ANGELES — Drew Doughty and Dustin Penner scored goals, while Jonathan Quick stopped 21 shots to lead the Los Angeles Kings to a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues in Game 6 of their Western Conference Quarterfinal playoff series.

With the win, the Kings eliminated the Blues, four games to two.

Doughty opened the scoring at 12:37 of the first period on a wrist shot from the left circle. On the play, after taking a drop pass from center Colin Fraser, Doughty faked a slap shot, and then used Blues defenseman Roman Polak as a screen before letting go with a wrist shot that beat Blues goaltender Brian Elliott high, just inside the left goal post.
