Frozen Royalty Video: King, Jones Lead LA Kings To 3-2 Shootout Win At Anaheim

ANAHEIM, CA — Dwight King scored the lone goal in a nine-round shootout, and Martin Jones made his National Hockey League debut in goal—both led the Los Angeles Kings to a 3-2 shootout win over the Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center in Anaheim on December 3.

Jeff Carter and Dustin Brown scored goals for the Kings, while Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry scored for Anaheim.

Jonas Hiller was outstanding in goal for the Ducks, making 49 saves, while Jones stopped 26 shots for the Kings.

Jones and Kings head coach Darryl Sutter spoke to the media after the game, and you can watch videos of those media scrum interviews below.

LOS ANGELES — With the National Hockey League’s Stadium Series coming to Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on January 25, 2014, where the Los Angeles Kings will host the Anaheim Ducks in one of six outdoor games scheduled this season, something that stands out in all this is the fact that outdoor ice hockey is a completely foreign concept here in Southern California.

Indeed, the fact is that the only outdoor hockey we know here is played on roller skates, or in a pair of tennis shoes in a park, schoolyard, or a neighborhood street.

LOS ANGELES — Nearly three years ago, not long after the National Hockey League’s Winter Classic was held at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman was in Los Angeles, and he took some time to meet with the media.

At that time, yours truly asked Bettman why the NHL had not considered Los Angeles as a venue for an outdoor game, noting that the Kings had already set a precedent for successfully playing such a game in a warm climate when they faced the New York Rangers in a pre-season game at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas back in September 1991.

Bettman was taken aback by my question.
