Los Angeles Kings Fill 3rd Line Winger Spot: Alexei Ponikarovsky Signed

EL SEGUNDO, CA — On July 27, the Los Angeles Kings signed unrestricted free agent left wing Alexei Ponikarovsky to a one-year contract worth $3 million.

The deal also paid the 30-year-old native of Kiev, Ukraine a $200,000 signing bonus, bring his salary cap hit to $3.2 million for the 2010-11 season.

Last season, Ponikarovsky scored 21 goals and 29 assists for fifty points with 61 penalty minutes in 77 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The 6-4, 229-pound winger scored 19 goals and tallied 22 assists for 41 points with 44 penalty minutes in 61 regular season games with the Maple Leafs before being dealt to the Penguins on March 2, 2010, in exchange for forward Luca Caputi and defenseman Martin Skoula.

With the Penguins, Ponikarovsky scored two goals and contributed seven assists for nine points with 17 penalty minutes in 16 regular season games.

In the playoffs, Ponikarovsky scored a goal and added four assists for five points in eleven games with the Pens.

In the 2008-09 season, Ponikarovsky set career highs in goals (23), assists (38), points (61) and games played (82) with the Maple Leafs. In all, Ponikarovsky has scored twenty or more goals in four of the past five seasons.

Selected by the Maple Leafs in the fourth round (87th overall) of the 1998 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Ponikarovsky has scored 116 goals and has tallied 150 assists for 266 points with 335 penalty minutes with a +50 plus/minus rating in 493 regular season games with the Penguins and Maple Leafs.

In 34 NHL playoff games, Ponikarovsky has scored two goals and has added seven assists for nine points with 16 penalty minutes and a -1 rating.

Prior to coming to North America to play in the NHL, Ponikarovsky played for Dynamo Moscow and Krylya Sovetov in Russia.

The acquisition of Ponikarovsky is a lateral move for the Kings after left wing Alexander Frolov signed an unrestricted free agent contract with the New York Rangers.

Frolov was seeking a contract valued at $4-5 million per year from the Kings and other potential suitors, but no team offered him such a deal after his poor 2009-10 season in which he scored just 19 goals.

Both Ponikarovsky and Frolov have good size, but are not known as physical players. Frolov is a bit more gifted offensively and possesses superior puck protection skills. But Ponikarovsky is more responsible defensively and is expected to be more consistent than Frolov, who was only consistent in that he would disappear for several games at a time after a short stretch of strong performances.

sorry, i cant resist ……… maybe this will be my last post …………………… nice garbage move by lombardi …………………. joining the likes of preissing and all the rest ……. no gann, its not a lateral move , this guy couldnt hold frolovs jock …………. i dont care about stats, which poni has less of, just watch them play – fro is way better …….. poni is a total zero ………….. not to mention in his 30s ….. just more garbage from lombardi …. why u think burke got rid of him ………. he stinks …………… ive watched him play probably 300 games on my nhl center ice package and he is total junk ………………… and who says he will play on the 3rd line, knowing the kings he will play on the first or second ……………………… kings ………………. will u please just fold or leave town like the rams and raiders …. just get the hell outta here with this garbage ………. enough is enough ….. get lost

  2. chris says:

lol …. and yea i wasnt even aware of that stat ………. thank you so so much gann ………. 2 goals in 34 playoffs games …………………… lol lol lol ….lombardi strikes again ………. lombardi please resign sign since lieweike is too stupid to fire you ……….. and mr anshultz ……. please fold or move the team …. thank you

  3. chris says:

who am i kidding …. like i can stop …. especially with all this junk going on ………..
cammis 40 goals ……… yea we dont need that ….. gabbys 40 goals …. yea we dont need that ……. heatleys 40 goals ….. yeah we couldnt use that either ……….. what a laugh riot this organization is ……………………………… i bet after the kovi situation now , all those deals listed above he passed on are looking really really good ……………. your a clown lombardi, and u dont know talent at all ……………… and i heard hellene “the great ” elliot – who tells it like it is – is now saying the other thing deano has in mind is only a defenseman ……………….. lol if this is the case , and all u do all offseason to our pathetic forward lines is exchange frolov for that piece of garbage ponikarovsky, then like i said earlier , please mr anshultz, please get the hell outta here and fold or move this team ….. get this garbage outta here ………… …………………………………………….. didnt we already have the perfect guy in quincey …….. oh thats right we needed that geriatric smyth and his 6 million dollar cap hit ………………. or maybe our goaltending will just steal games for us since we have no offense , oh no thats right, we have a fool as talent evaluator who thinks jonathan quick is better than bernier simply because of game experience …. quick is headed into the season number 1 ………….. so nope our goaltending wont be stealing us any significant amount of games since our best goalie will be on the bench most nights , or at least half the nights , watching terrible quick , with his many holes and horrible rebounds ………………………. please please please move or fold …………….. ……… …… please

Gann I’ll keep my comments civil when replying to chris in the future.

    O. K. genius! Where should the team move to?Lets here your list of possible sites, complete with a plan on how to move them (without all the incoherent babble). If you believe we should just fold then stop calling yourself a Kings fan (not that I believe you are anyways). I mean, if you don’t want the team to exist, then what’s the point.
Share this profound knowledge with me so that I may better understand your reasoning. Please try to focus on this without going off into a rant about Heatley or Gaborik or etc., etc., etc.

  5. Gann Matsuda says:

Everyone will keep their comments civil (no personal attacks, no matter who started it) and on topic or you won’t see them here. And if anyone develops a reputation for posting comments that don’t follow these simple rules (or anything that falls under the “common courtesy” category), I’ll just delete their comments from my moderation queue without looking at them. I have more important things to do than baby sit. Thanks.

  6. chris says:

hey dom ……… i just read on hammonds blog u expect poni to score 30 plus goals playing with zues and simmonds ……… utterly laughable
………………….. and dom, i could care less where they move or how they do it ……….. just get this 43 year old piece of trash outta here

  7. Joel says:

Poni and Fro are a wash. I could care less about the offensive production since it shouldn’t be too significant than what Fro would have done if he were here for another year. There’s no reason to believe Fro’s production would have been any better with the Kings in 2010-2011. Poni is better on the penalty kill and on defense anyway. He’ll probably have the same effect that Modin had late in the season with a little bit better defense (considering he’ll probably be lining up with Handzus.)

This is a low risk, low reward move with just a one year deal, but one that I think is a decent one. Hopefully Lombardi is not yet done and adds one blue liner to round out the roster. You don’t need to blow up the team after they had a 101 point season…especially when you take into account there won’t be another Olympic break next season to stifle the team’s momentum. Now let’s hope that a year later Murray is a year wiser and handles the defense and goalie time share a little better.

  8. chris says:

modin was terrible …. awful ……….. horrible in columbus and horrible here ……….. he scored 3 goals in the playoffs ….. that does not mean he is a gamer etc ……… its called coincidense ……….. hes terrible ……. old and slow and completely dead and buried ……. good riddance …………. we can only hope poni is an upgrade over him ………….. certainly not an upgrade over frolov ………… and why does everyone think frolov has all this immense talent and is an enigma etc………….. frolov is what he has always been , a guy who is best suited for a 3rd line because all he does is down low work and board and corner work , but he is very very good at it ……. so people quit thinking frolov underachieved and should have put up all these points ……. hes simply not capable of it …………. at least not consistently in a structured system like we have now with murray ………… hes not good enough to consistently put up points ………….. frolov is what he is …… a great down low player …. without much else to offer …………… but that being said ………. hes way better than poni
…………………….. and joel ………………….. the 101 points are a refelction of the new bogus overtime rules ……………………. in the old days the kings would have had somewhere around 89 points because they had like 9 shootout wins and 3 ot losses for 12 points they wouldnt have gotten 10 or 15 years ago ………………………. the bogus overtime rules have artificially inflated every teams point total ….. so please stop believing the hype and spin ……………… the kings finished 6th …. one point out of 7th …….. not that fantastic …. peace

  9. Dominick says:

ClippersoftheNHL, My comments were me being sarcastic. A lot of people (Including you) seem to think that Fro in that same position should have scored 30 or more goals. The fact that he scored 19 from the 3rd line was( to those same people) unacceptable .Since Poni is playing that same position, for the same money that Fro got elsewhere, it stands to reason (Not my reasoning by any means) that 30 goals should be expected, and that 19 would be unacceptable. Read the start where I said “to be fair” and the end where I put “LOL.”

  10. Joel says:

I do my best to be as objective as possible, which means arguing the good and the bad. I certainly have been both optimistic and critical of the Kings on a few of these sites. Chris, it’s certainly your right to have nothing but negative comments for the Kings, but I think it marginalizes some of the points that you make because you are always looking through a glass half empty.

If Frolov was as bad as you say he was, then he had nothing to do with the Kings’ 101 points. Which follows, that the Kings won’t miss him next year. If Modin was not that good, then the Kings won’t miss him either. The other players the Kings have lost in the offseason are O’Donnell, Jones, and Ivanans. So which one of those losses will now cause the Kings to be an embarrassment of a team and miss the playoffs as you indicate? I can’t really follow your logic on this point.

I agree with you that without shootouts the Kings probably wouldn’t have had 101 points. But I think that’s a relative argument since a lot of teams improved their standing in shootouts. (Phoenix was actually better in shootouts than the Kings, and would have been behind them in the standings by a point without them.) I think what’s more relevant as to why the Kings didn’t have more than 101 points, was because they played so poorly after the Olympic Break, and Murray burned out Quick. With some wiser coaching and minor changes, it’s not unrealistic to believe that the Kings can be just as good, if not better, next season.

Let me also address another point that a lot of Lombardi bashers don’t seem to understand: When a team makes the playoffs for the first time in a while and is built on youth, there is no reason to make a major overhaul to the team in order to improve it. I believe in making minor changes to playoff teams to complement the main players already there. After a few years, if you can’t advance in the playoffs, then it is time to start questioning whether the foundation is good enough to win the Stanley Cup. But we’re not there yet. It’s just after year one.

This certainly has not been a good offseason for Lombardi, but I’m not a knee jerk reaction kind of guy. Things never go exactly the way you want. If the Lakers had listened to Kobe Bryant’s knee jerk reactions and had traded him a couple years ago, they wouldn’t have been in the position to win back to back championships. Instead they waited it out for the right move to make. People in LA believed that Kupchak was a buffoon for a while, and now they believe he’s a genius for waiting it all out.

It’s very similar to what’s going on with the Kings now. The right move has not manifested itself yet. But it doesn’t mean that now is the time to panic, trade away the farm, fire the GM, and move the team to Kansas City.

  11. Joel says:

Bad math on my part. I just realized without the shootouts, Phoenix would still have finished with one more point than the Kings. Sorry about that.

  12. Dominick says:

    Joel,
Excellent post (even with the mathematical error). I couldn’t agree more.

  13. Gann Matsuda says:

Dominick…in an attempt to make you look good, I fixed your spelling error. :-)

  14. chris says:

joel ….every team has inflated point totals …. every team … not just phoenix …. and not just shootout wins , but ot losses ………… ot losses use to be ZERO POINTS , now a game goes to overtime u are guaranteed a point even if u lose ……………….. joel ………….. what were u reading, i never was insinuating frolov was bad, i said hes very very good at down low work , but has nothing else to offer , and said he is a good player, way better than poni …. so i have no idea what your talking about ……………… and what makes me believe this is a bad team considering their offseason u ask ? ……………. its the same ole crap thats been going on for 42 years , more specifically 4 years regarding lombardi ……… same old crap with lombardi ………………. signs lame players …… and can never sign or trade for a quality scorer in his prime cuz hes too much of a wuss ………… dustin brown is waaaaay overrated …. i would have traded him for kovi in a second at the deadline , and furthermore , would have signed gabby last year , and if i didnt get gabby last year for whatever reason, i would give kovi whatever money he wanted this offseason and traded brown to get the cap relief to do it ….. either way , deadline trade or offseason as free agent , the sacrificial lamb would be dustin brown ……………. i can not for the life of me figure out why dustin brown has to be or should be part of our CORE …. WAY OVERRATED

………………… okay look everyone ……… kovis gone ………… but explain to me why lombardi cant do this ……………. spezza is up for trade ….. why cant u trade stoll and brown for spezza …….. if thats not enough for them id throw in picks or prospects …………. okay now we have two real nhl centers in their prime …………………… then go out and sign afinaginov …. hes cheap enough , and talented, and has speed, something which we desparately need
………… …… ………….. okay so here would be our lines
    ………………………………….. smyth – kopitar – simmonds
    ………………………………. afiniginov – spezza – parse
    ……. stopper line .. richardson – handzus – poni
    ………………………….. westgarth – schenn – williams

…………………… that team can compete for a stanley cup this season
………………….. why wont lombardi do it? …………….. because he has no balls and it makes perfect sense …… thats why he wont …………….. lombardi has no clue what he is doing ………………………………….. and by the way, yes simmonds on the first line because opposite that old man smyth you have to have a young fast hustler type to offset his horrible oldness and slowness …… so simmonds is the only choice , he has more upside goal wise than richie …… put richie on the stopper line where he can excel with his forecheck ……………… and yes, schenn centering the 4th line ……. this way he eases into the nhl without alot of pressure on him this first year ……………… it is better for him to be up here playing with the great competition versus playing in manchester with lesser people ……… if he plays every game as our 4th line center ….. thats still plenty of minutes for him to develope , and like i said , it will only help him to be playing up here against the best players versus spending another year down in manch …………… there is nothing like the speed of the nhl ……. so this would be very valuable for schenn to have a year under his belt as our 4th line center going into the next season when he will probably be asked to fill handzus’ spot …………… and if schenns not ready, okay, go with cliche or lewis or whoever to fill the 4th line center role this season ……….. and yes , parse on the 2nd line instead of williams who is only a good board worker and not a natural scorer like parse …………. terry murray has given parse a raw deal so far ………….. but then again murray does alot of stupid things – like lombardi ……….

……………………. anyways , all of this is moot of course because lombardi is too stupid to trade brown and stoll for spezza because brown is so so valuable to us …. gimme a break …. the guy has horrible hands ……….. talk about a lack of finish ….. jesus ….. worst hands i have ever seen ………… how many times do i have to see dustin brown fan on a wide open one timer from 10 feet away ……………………………………………………………………………. why wont lomabrdi trade for spezza and sign afiniginov ? ……… why of course because it would make perfect sense ……… get lost lombardi ……. you have had your chance with like 12 seasons with the sharks and kings , and still have never traded for or signed an impact player on offense …………………. and no , he didnt get joe thornton ……….. he was fired up there for not doing precisely what he is not doing here …………….. the second lombardi is fired from san jose ….. the new guy wilson goes out and gets thronton …. immediately ………….. some people like burke and wilson have balls …. lombardi does not ……………. and yea, nothing guarantees u a cup ( see san jose) but at least getting a guy like thronton guaranteed you would have fantastic regular seasons and compete for the cup every season ………………….. anyways, lombardis lame …….. get lost ……….. lol gann , im now posting more than ever …….. yep …… im insane

  15. Gann Matsuda says:

Saying that the Kings’ record is inflated because of shootout and overtime wins is a specious argument, at best. After all, the last time I checked, all 30 NHL teams were eligible of getting an extra point for a shootout or overtime win. Whether other teams took advantage of that extra point as often or fewer times than the Kings did is irrelevant because that’s not something the Kings could control.

Use of that as evidence for stating that the Kings were far worse than their record would otherwise indicate would only be valid if the same standard did not apply to other teams.

  16. Gann Matsuda says:

One other thing about how things work around here…and I should have stated this before…don’t beat the proverbial dead horse around here. If you’ve already stated your position and don’t really have anything new to add, there’s no need to re-state what’s already been said. If you feel that you just have to have the last word, that too will fall under the type of comment that won’t be allowed here.

  17. chris says:

gann , do u not read what i say …………….. i said every teams point total is inflated ….. the kings , and everybody else …. quit all this talking down to me crap, with your your insulting clever little comebacks like “last time i checked all 30 teams … etcc….” ……….. no sh** gann, thats was exactly my argument …… all teams ………………………… and im only talking about the point total thats inflated for every team , if u would read what i say…………….. where their record relates to everybody else is exactly the same as its always been ………. i never suggested otherwise ……….. im only talkiing about the point totals in comparison to teams of past years before all this overtime nonsense …………… for example , if it was 10 or 15 years ago , yes they would have had around 89 points , but yes that back then would have been good enough for their exact same position of 6th place ……………….. im only talking about points ….. not their relation to other teams in the standings …………………. they finsihed 19 games over 500 …… 101 points ………………. sorry but 10 to 15 years ago, 19 games over 500 and 101 points would have been a top 3 or 4 record in the entire nhl – not 11th

  18. Gann Matsuda says:

In your initial comment regarding point totals, you hadn’t said that yet…that’s what I was responding to. Besides, if every team has inflated point totals, why bring it up at all? It’s irrelevant. With every team eligible to receive the extra point, you can’t make any argument that they gained an advantage or were at a disadvantage from the extra point since all the other teams were eligible to earn them.

  19. chris says:

bullcrap …….. go back and reread ……………… whenever i said it , i always said it the same way ………… your just not reading my stuff ………. and i dont blame you for that ……. but if your gonna argue with me about something i said , at least have your facts straight about what i said

  20. Gann Matsuda says:

After going back and deciphering your code, you did indeed say that. For that, I apologize. That said, if you made any effort at all to make your posts readable to anyone but yourself (it’s pretty clear that you comment just to get stuff off your chest rather than to incite meaningful discussion; and I don’t mean that as an insult…it’s just an observation based on your behavior, going back to my belief that you are using sites like this one as your personal venting board), readers might actually be able to fully comprehend and digest what you’re saying without missing anything like I did.

    Food for thought for’ya.

  21. chris says:

gann its unbelievable you still dont get my argument ……………… im talking about comparing the teams point totals to teams of years past …………. so 101 points today is not the same as 10 years ago …………………………….. so its a very relevant argument when u got clowns saying crap likie …. we are great we had 101 points , like the third best record ever , no need to blow this team up …………. ITS AN INFLATED POINT TOTAL COMPARED TO THOSE OTHER KINGS TEAMS OF YEARS PAST , AND ANY OTHER TEAM IN THE NHL OF YEARS PAST ……………… like for example in gretzkys first year we were something like 11 games over 500, around 91 points since i believe it was an 80 game schedule , and yet that record – 11 games over and 91 points was probably like the 7th or 8th best record in the entire nhl …………….. do u get it yet gann

  22. chris says:

and yes , i agree with you my stuff can be hard to understand …………….. i am trying to incorporate a couple of spaces like in the long spezza one ………………. but yea , for me it is hard because i am a basket case ………………… and lol yes gann …………. i always love to have the last word huh ? i know, god im sick …………………… sorry bud ……….. im just a screwed up person ……….. i know my hockey though , dont care what anyone says

  23. Gann Matsuda says:

Then don’t get bent out of shape when people miss something you wrote or misunderstand you. You really have no one to blame but yourself if you’re not going to even attempt to make your posts readable…adding a space here and there isn’t anywhere near enough.

  24. chris says:

lol true dat ……. but part of the problem for me is , its understandable to me ………… so why wouldnt people understand it …………………………………. but enought about our silly lil fight about spacing and misunderstandings and point totals ………………………… enough of that and onto the moves i purposed since i now seem to have your undivided attention for a change ( i dont usually get to talk to you one on one like this ) …………….. so anyways onto some fun stuff then we can call it a night …………. would u trade stoll and brown for spezza ….. and then sign afiniginov …….. like i propose …………. or u think its a bad idea and disagree …………… just curious if we will ever agree on anything ……………. (other than the fact we both know bernier is going to be the best goalie of all time ) lol lol tru dat …. we both know hes gonna be awesome …. but anyways what u think about what i proposed ….. agree or disagree ………… just curious …………….. wont get offended or anything silly like that

  25. chris says:

lol now u go to sleep …………. just when i thought i had your attention …………. trolls like me dont have to sleep …………. i have no life , so no need to prepare for the next day ……. its just all kings 24/7 ……… man i have absolutely no life ……………………. when u have nothing left to live for and yur like ” is there a reason for me to even be living” and then u force yourself to stay alive just to enjoy kings hockey ….. that should explain where my anger with lombardi and this team comes from ……………….. all my eggs are in the kings basket now for any kind of enjoyment in life ……… OUCH! ……… yep, wrong franchise to be pining your self happyness on ….. peace

  26. Dominick says:

    Chris,
I wish you would put as much thought and energy into giving fans hope and encouragement, instead of crapping on their dreams and demanding respect. You call yourself a troll (which means you fully understand what you do to other Kings fans) and preach nothing but disdain.

I do a little trolling with opposing franchises fans, but the big difference between you and I is that I don’t pretend to like their team. I openly challenge them (not insult) as a Kings fan. You might know a little about the Kings but you know nothing about being a fan.

  27. Joel says:

Chris, for the record, I acknowledge that I misread your point on Frolov. But on the same note, you are putting words in my mouth about the Kings’ 101 point season. I never put it in context of prior seasons, although I have seen other fans do it. I don’t find it amusing that you used a straw man argument on me and then referred to me as a clown for believing that this season was so much better than some of the Kings’ other seasons solely because of the point total. You completely missed my point.

My persepective on a 101 point season, in today’s game with shootouts, is that it’s good enough to make the playoffs. No team in the shootout era has missed the playoffs with 101 points. There’s also nothing wrong with getting into the playoffs with a low seed. Philadelphia was 2 wins away from winning the cup as a 7th seed and they needed a shootout win the last game of the regular season to make the playoffs. Montreal was an 8 seed, and they knocked out Washington and Pittsburgh. If you can consistently make the playoffs, there’s no reason why you can’t win the cup. It’s anyone’s trophy once you make it in. For that reason, my belief is that you don’t blow up the core the first year in the playoffs when the core you have is the youngest in the league, and you consistently have a chance to make the playoffs. It’s still too early.

  28. Gann Matsuda says:

No one has crossed the line in the past couple of days, but, to reiterate, keep it civil, no personal attacks, for any reason. Thanks.

  29. Roger says:

I understand the frustration of Kings fans. Lombardi has been trying to sign good free agents Kovi, Paul Martin, Hamuis, and the guy who signed with Detroit last year whos name I cant remember. The thing is these players went to teams they thought were closer to winning the cup. Our time is coming we have a good young core, youngsters coming up in the minors, and we made the playoffs for the first time in a while. The key is keep making progress. This year advance in the playoffs. Bring some of your frustration to the rink and yell Go Kings

  30. Dominick says:

I’m not sure if you guys check out corsi #’s but this article was very interesting.

    Front Office Focus

  31. chris says:

hey joel ………….. no man i never meant that u were a clown ……… i was just speaking in general terms and i never mentioned you by name ………… i mean after all, u agreed with me in your first part before u went on to talk about phoenix and other things that relevant to my argument of years past ……… so anyways , i wasnt refering to u as a clown ………… i was just speaking general terms about peeps ………… if it came that way i apologize ……….. but i didnt intend it to be an attack on you ………………………… but anyways

hey dom ……….. nope sorry dom , ive been a kings fan longer than you can imagine …… sorry

dom i disagree with puck perspectus …………… i know everybody is looking for some silver lining this offseason , but sorry , ponirovsky is not it ………….. i mean a tip off of how this writer knows nothing about the kings comes from the statement (regarding frolov) ……………….. “replaceing alexander frolov – a decent puck possesion player” …………….. lol decent ……….. no , sorry puck perspectus , he may be the best in the league at it ………… he dosent offer much else ………… but controlling the puck is his claim to fame ………………………….. but anyways this puck perspectus article writer must have been high when he suggested a line of williams kopitar and poni would be one of the best in the league ……….. sorry but the sedin twins in a head to head match up would chew them up and spit them out as we saw in last years playoffs ……….. poni went to pittsburgh and did absolutely nothing playing with some great players ……………… pittsburghs gm is on record as saying his play was “much less than we expected” …….with the writer of that article insinuating the word that was actually used was “dismal” , but the gm wanted that word off the record ………………… but anyways, yes thats just one gms opinion , but he had a first hand look , and so did i, watching poni play with the leafs and his terrible play with the pens

but anyways ………… if anybody is looking for poni to play anywhere other than the third line , you are kidding yourself ……… but , of course , with lombardi and murray , anything is possible unfortunately ………….. in my opinion, frolov is a better player ……….. so we are in worse shape than we were when the canucks handed us our asses last april , and lombardi has done nothing to improve us as usual

people love to say , but if frolov makes that breakaway – we win that series …………………. first of all, the canucks won the next two games meaning we would have blown a 3 – 1 lead and had to go back to vancouver to most assuredly lose game 7 , and blown a 3 – 1 series lead …….. so no, if frolov makes that breakaway, in my opinion , we still lose the series blowing a 3 – 1 …………… you might say, yes , but that 3 -1 lead wouold have given us so much momentum that it wouold have changed everything and therefore, you cant predict how the series would have went ………. that is completely true, maybe we do win the series ………………… but guess what ? ………….. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN TOTAL LUCK …………….. THE CANUCKS COMPLETELY DOMINATED US IN EVERY GAME – IT WAS LIKE PROS VERSUS MINOR LEAGUERS AT TIMES – SIMILAR TO THE 3 – 0 GAME THE HAWKS CAME INTO STAPLES AND BEAT US ……………………………… MY POINT IS , THE VANCOUVER CANUCKS WERE BY FAR THE BETTER TEAM – HANDS DOWN ……….. THEY DESERVED TO WIN THAT SERIES, AND WE DID NOT – PERIOD ………………………………. THANK GOD FOR THE POWER PLAY , OR WE WOULD HAVE BEEN SWEPT

point is dean lombardi better get to work and trade for a qualtiy , game changing type forward ………………………………. all im hearing is how we need a defensemen blah blah , but dont we supposedly have all these defensemen that we drafted ……. its time for them to play then …….. or lombardi can pick up a veteran defenseman if he wants (preferably not kaberle who is very lame) ………… but the overriding thing we really need and have needed for a really really really long time under dean lombardi is an offensive player who scares people – even in the slightest (ribero, spezza , hemsky etc….) ……. not superstars , but people who can at least scare the opposition at times ……….. currently we have none of that ……………….. and that has been our biggest need for a long time – not defense …………………….. so lombardi better do that , or it will be another wasted season …………… still dont know why dustin brown has to be considered part of our core – HE SCARES NO ONE …………….. anyways later folks

    Ummm…no yelling please, thanks.

Better team won the series, but how did the Canucks dominate in every game? If that’s what you saw, then your biases are badly, badly coloring your judgement.

  35. Gann Matsuda says:

Chris…the last comment you posted was not approved because it contained language that included a personal attack. If you can re-post it without resorting to that, I’ll approve it. Also, I would’ve e-mailed this to you, but you used a phony address. Thanks.

  36. Gann Matsuda says:

Apparently, Chris has decided that he must resort to personal attacks in some of his messages. As such, he won’t be posting on this site in the future.

The way it works here, folks, is that you get one chance…MAYBE two. After that, I won’t hesitate to delete any comment in my moderation queue posted by those unwilling to follow the simple rules/policies I have for this site.

I have no time to waste on baby sitting those who act like children, so if you’re going to do that, spare us all and post that kind of garbage elsewhere. Thanks.

Wow. I only said the article was interesting. I personally have been trying to figure out pts/per 60 min and have tried to look at corsi #’rs to further expand my understanding of the #’rs. I haven’t figured it all out but looking at #’rs in different ways has been quite enjoyable.

David Johnson did an article also on Corsi #’rs, that I found a while ago, that actually made me start to look at them. When Corsi Analysis Goes Wrong…

I’m still trying to figure these #’rs out for myself to see how relevant these #’rs really are, but I liked both articles.

    Gann,
I owe this site an apology. I’ve been reading for a while but didn’t start posting till recently. I was just trying to back up my comments with a source. I now understand the rules, which sadly I had not read completely before. I will try to be less ignorant in the future and concentrate on staying on topic and more civil with others that I find offensive.

I have very much enjoyed your articles and hope to continue to post to those articles=. Thanks.

  39. Gann Matsuda says:

I don’t see where you violated this site’s Code of Conduct for posting comments, at least, not in terms of the links you posted. You bent the personal attack rule a bit earlier, so yeah, be careful on that one.

As for not having read the Code of Conduct before, you get a pass on that since I hadn’t published them until the wee hours of this morning. Figured I should spell them out for everyone… :-)
