LOS ANGELES — In recent years, the Los Angeles Kings have proven to be dumbfounded when it comes to skating against the Nashville Predators, earning a measly 2-7-1 record over their last ten contests, and an 0-5-1 record going back to the 2008-09 season.
On March 14, a bright, sunny Saturday afternoon, the Kings proved that they remain totally mystified by the Predators, who handed the Kings a 3-2 defeat in front of a disappointed sell-out crowd of 18,118 fans at Staples Center.
The Predators were all over the sluggish Kings from the first drop of the puck and continued to control the pace for the majority of the game.
The Kings were able to put-together several spurts, including shifts resulting in goals by Anze Kopitar and Dustin Brown. But the Kings played poorly in their own zone throughout the game and goaltender Jonathan Quick was shaky in his first game since the birth of his first child, a girl, on March 12.
- The Kings power-play is 10-for-26 in the last eight games, 38.5%.
- Kopitar scored his 32nd goal of the season, tying a career high set in 2007-08.
- Michal Handzus has thirteen points in the last fifteen games (five goals, eight assists).
- Drew Doughty has points in eight of his last ten games (two goals, eight assists for ten points.
- The Kings are 21-9-5 in one-goal games and 6-2-1 in the last nine home games.
