Frozen Royalty Audio and NHL Video: Parse, Stoll, Quick Help LA Kings Douse Flames

LOS ANGELES — Scott Parse and Jarret Stoll scored goals, but Jonathan Quick was the big star for the Los Angeles Kings, who squeaked past the Calgary Flames, 2-1, in front of an announced crowd of 13,853 fans at Staples Center on Monday night.

Parse opened the scoring at 8:54 of the first period on a nifty move in front of Calgary netminder Miikka Kiprusoff.

Flames forward Curtis Glencross answered at 15:39, beating Quick with a backhand from the low slot.

 

Stoll scored on the power play at 4:34 of the second period to give the Kings their final margin of victory.

Quick was outstanding in a 26-save effort—he stole two points in the standings in this one.

NOTES: The Kings have earned points in five straight games (4-0-1); they broke a five-game losing streak to Calgary. Their last win was on February 15, 2008; the Kings are 14-3-3 when scoring first and 12-0-0 when leading after two periods; the Kings’ 39 points is tied for the fifth best 31-game start (1999-00 and 1990-91 clubs also had 39 points; Parse has points in six of his last seven games (3-4=7); Stoll has points in four straight (2-3=5) and has 17 points in his last 19 games (9-8=17). He was 10-for-12 on face-offs tonight and is 101/168 on face-offs in his last 11 games (60.1%); Dustin Brown has assists in three of the last four games; Justin Williams has five points in the last four games (3-2=5); Randy Jones has four points in the last four games (2-2=4).
