Simmonds is becoming one of my favorite players on the team. I love his all around game and his grittyness. I can’t wait to see him keep developing his game and adding to the team.

Oh yes, and 1 thing worth adding is the recent presence of the very able Scott Parse on Simmonds’ opposite wing.

These 2 guys really compliment each other and make great running mates.

They are both perfect for a 3rd-line-style unit, and can flank either Stoll or Handzus effectively, giving us more flexibility in matchups.

Parse and Simmonds are helping each other–Just watch them on the ice. They can only get better together.

While it can still be said Wayne is “still unproven,” if he is able to keep improving over the next 2-3 years (which I think he can do), he will pass the “proven” point and be an elite 2-way, top 6, maybe even top 3, winger.

He will achieve this, I believe, and will also become our Captain by around 2013 or so.

No rush. Plenty of time to enjoy the ride.

It’s all good with Wayne Simmonds.

It’s interesting to see players who are having success this season (namely Kopitar and Simmonds) talking about how they really focused on getting in shape during the off season. I recall DL making a big point of telling the players to get in shape after they said they needed a few more players for this season. His response was “no, you need to get in shape.” This raises the question of why they didn’t do this earlier. Who in the organization failed to prep them before this summer? Why did they feel it was ok NOT to get in great shape previously? I mean, I’m glad they are now, but still..makes one wonder. (and please get rid of the snow effect. Its killing me)

Hasn’t paid off yet, Keith. This is still just his second full season in the NHL. He is still unproven.

Nice one, Gann. I’m glad to see the “Simmonds experiment” has paid off. Just imagine when the kid has filled out and added some muscle. He’s going to be clutch in the playoffs!

I liked Simmonds’ description of his progression from a simple chip-and-chase game to realizing that he has some time to make plays out there. Couple that with his newfound confidence and you’ve got a valuable two-way player, not just a defensive grinder.
