LA Kings Defenseman Drew Doughty Named To Team Canada For 2010 Winter Olympics

]SASKATOON, SK AND EL SEGUNDO, CA — On December 30, Hockey Canada announced its roster for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty has been selected to represent Canada in the tournament.

Doughty, 20, will represent Canada at the Olympics for the first time, but has played for Canada in the 2009 World Championships (won the Silver medal – 9 games played, 1-6=7, with his seven points tied for fourth among defensemen in the tournament and his six assists third most among defensemen in the tournament and tied for eighth overall); at the 2008 World Junior Championships (Gold medal – 7 GP, 0-4=4, was named Top Defenseman of the tournament); the 2007 World Junior Under-18 Championships and the 2006 World Junior Under-17 Championships.

“This means a lot to me,” said Doughty. “I didn’t expect to make the team. I’m just ecstatic.It’s a dream come true and to be able to play in Vancouver makes it that much better. I’m happy to be a part of the team in any way, shape or form.” Read more of this post

LA Kings: Handzus To Play For Slovakia In 2010 Winter Olympics; Jonathan Bernier To Start In 2010 AHL All-Star Game

EL SEGUNDO, CA AND SPRINGFIELD, MA — On December 30, the Los Angeles Kings announced that center Michal Handzus will represent Slovakia in the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. Later in the day, the American Hockey League announced that the Manchester Monarchs (Kings primary minor league affiliate) goaltender Jonathan Bernier will be the starter in goal for the Canadian AHL All-Star team in the 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic. Frozen Royalty Audio And NHL Video: Minnesota Hands LA Kings Their Third Straight Loss

LOS ANGELES — After learning that they will be without right wing Justin Williams for three months, the Los Angeles Kings dropped their third straight game, this time, a 4-3 loss to the Minnesota Wild in front of a disappointed sell-out crowd of 18,118 fans at Staples Center on Monday night.

Former Kings center Eric Belanger scored two goals, including the game-winner at 17:43 of the third period, and added an assist, while goaltender Niklas Backstrom stopped 29 shots to lead the Wild to the victory. Read more of this post
