LA Kings Center Anze Kopitar Named NHL’s First Star of the Week

NEW YORK — On October 26, the National Hockey League named Los Angeles Kings center Anze Kopitar as their first star of the week ending October 25.

Kopitar led all scorers last week with six goals and three assists for nine points, leading the Kings to four straight wins and into first place in the Pacific Division.

Kopitar scored three goals in a 5-4 overtime victory over the Dallas Stars on October 19, earning his first NHL hat trick. He followed that performance with three assists in a 5-3 win over the Phoenix Coyotes on October 24 and then he scored two goals against the Columbus Blue Jackets in a 6-2 win on October 25.

Kopitar, who has scored ten goals and has tallied eleven assists for 21 points in twelve games, currently leads the NHL in goals and points.

Montreal Canadiens forward Michael Cammalleri was named as the second star of the week, while San Jose Sharks forward Patrick Marleau was named the third star.
