LA Kings Assign Forward Trevor Lewis to AHL Affiliate

EL SEGUNDO, CA — On October 30, the Los Angeles Kings assigned forward Trevor Lewis to the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, their primary minor league affiliate.

Lewis, 22, has played in five games with the Kings this season, but has failed to get on the score sheet. Last season, he scored a goal and added two assists for three points in six games with the Kings.

The 6-0, 199-pound native of Salt Lake City, Utah scored twenty goals and added 31 assists for 51 points in 75 games with the Monarchs last season. Read more of this post

LA Kings Claim Defenseman Randy Jones Off Re-Entry Waivers; Place Alec Martinez On Injured Reserve

EL SEGUNDO, CA — On October 29, the Los Angeles Kings claimed defenseman Randy Jones off of re-entry waivers from the Philadelphia Flyersand they placed defenseman Alec Martinez on the injured reserve list, retroactive to October 5, due to a high ankle sprain.

Jones, 28, has played in six games this season with the Adirondack Phantoms of the American Hockey League, recording one assist with six penalty minutes.

The 6-2, 200-pound native of Quispamsis, Newfoundland played in 47 games last season with the Flyers, scoring four goals and adding four assists for eight points with 22 penalty minutes. He also played in six playoff games with the Flyers and he played in two regular season games with the Phantoms. Read more of this post

Time To Right A Wrong: Hockey Hall of Fame Must Induct Rogie Vachon

COMMENTARY: On October 26, Montreal Gazette writer Dave Stubbs wrote a story on former Los Angeles Kings goaltender Rogie Vachon, “Honour Overdue For Ex-Habs Goalie Vachon.” To provide more of a Los Angeles Kings angle to the Vachon story, I decided to spruce up, update and re-publish a story I wrote way back in March, 1998 about Vachon, who should have been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame years ago, but remains on the outside looking in.

LOS ANGELES — Compared to many of today’s goalies who are six feet tall or more, former Los Angeles Kings’ superstar goalie Rogie Vachon is small by comparison, probably around 5-7 (I’m 5-9 and I am taller than Vachon). But despite his relatively small physical stature, Vachon’s place among National Hockey League goalies, past and present, looms large. Based on his performance throughout his sixteen-year NHL career, Vachon is clearly among the elite.

LA Kings Center Anze Kopitar Named NHL’s First Star of the Week

NEW YORK — On October 26, the National Hockey League named Los Angeles Kings center Anze Kopitar as their first star of the week ending October 25.

Kopitar led all scorers last week with six goals and three assists for nine points, leading the Kings to four straight wins and into first place in the Pacific Division. Read more of this post
