Good assessment though I don't really understand the big dustup over moving to Glendale, AZ. they finally got a decent arena, and Glendale is not far outside of Phoenix proper city limits IIRC. it seems like moving from Winnipeg to a slightly larger city in the first place may not have been the way to go after all.

anyway, it seems like they will stay in their current location for around 3 more years, but I definitely see them moving to Hamilton eventually (alternate locations, northern Ontario or as a second team in Toronto).

The Coyotes moving to Southern Ontario makes having three divisions per conference a little awkward if one wished to maintain parity in the number of teams in each division. Which division would they be in? If they stay in the Western Conference, they would be reasonably put in either the Northwest or Central. If they're in the Central, who gets bumped out? Nashville or St. Louis would be sent to the "Pacific". If they go to the Northwest, either Colorado or Vancouver gets bumped to the Pacific.

Or they could go into the Eastern Conference. If that is the case, the Northeast Division seems to be the most reasonable. In that case, who gets bumped out into another division and sent to the WC? If Boston goes to the Atlantic, wither Pittsburgh gets sent to the WC or some team there is sent to the Southeast division, and Atlanta is bumped to the WC.

The only other alternatives that I see would be to accept having six divisions with an unequal number of teams or to realign into two conferences, each of which has two divisions, one with seven teams and the other with eight.

I agree with Mel that having the Yotes close is good for our travel but, seriously, how long can this franchise survive in Phoenix. Balsillie would be a great owner and good for the league. The Ontario market wouldn't have a problem supporting it either. I guess that would make the Canucks part of the Pacific?
