Brown Stays in So Cal To Start Road Trip; Kings Recall Teddy Purcell

EL SEGUNDO, CA — On February 23, the Los Angeles Kings recalled right wing Teddy Purcell from the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League while right wing Dustin Brown goes on non-roster status.

Brown and his wife Nicole are expecting their second child and birth is imminent.

Brown has scored 23 goals with 25 assists for 45 points and 54 penalty minutes in 58 games this season. He will not travel with the team to Minnesota for Tuesday’s game against the Minnesota Wild.

Brown is expected to return to the team later in their current five-game road trip.

Purcell, 23, has scored a goal and has added six points in seventeen games with the Kings this season. With the Monarchs, the 6-3, 202-pound native of St. John’s, Newfoundland has scored 16 goals with 22 assists for 38 points in 38 games.

The people on Rich Hammond’s blog are just pathetic. I am glad he shut the comments down. [/rant]

I really hope Purcell starts showing he deserves a spot on the roster. He has been in the system for almost two years now and should have cracked the roster already.

What I really hope does NOT happen is that Dean gives up on guys like Purcell and Boyle and they flourish somewhere else.

After two years? Not necessarily. Generally speaking, prospects take 1-3 years.

  3. Marc says:

I can’t believe Dustin Brown is taking the game off just because his wife is having a kid! What’s more important, his family or entertaining me? After all, I pay 0.01% of his salary. They should strip the ‘C’ right off his jersey in full view of his teammates while they unceremoniously turn their backs on him.

    [/sarcasm]

The baby was born last night, a boy, Mason Cole, 4 lb., 4 oz. Apparently, mother and baby are fine, although the baby was born prematurely…the baby was due in April, which obviously made the birth even more of a concern.

Those who criticized Brown for leaving the team to be with his wife should be ashamed of their selfish, unthinking, uncaring attitude. These people should sit down and seriously think about re-joining the human race at some point in their lives.

Hockey is just a game, even at the NHL level. In the grand scheme of things, it is not important, certainly not as important as one’s family.

Brown is expected to return to the team on Thursday when the Kings practice in Detroit.
