Anaheim Ducks vs. Los Angeles Kings: Live Updates

LOS ANGELES — Greetings from the Bob Miller Press Box at Staples Center, where the Anaheim Ducks skate in to take on the Los Angeles Kings.

Defenseman Peter Harrold will be in the lineup tonight, taking Jack Johnson’s spot in the lineup. Newly-acquired defenseman Kyle Quincey arrived in Los Angeles this morning and underwent a physical examination but did not practice with the team.

Tonight’s referees are Gord Dwyer and Brad Watson. The linesmen are Derek Amell and Brian Murphy.

Likely starters in goal are Jean-Sebastien Giguere for the Ducks and Jason LaBarbera for the Kings…

7:28 PM PDT: The scratches for tonight…for the Ducks, defenseman Kent Huskins and left wing Rob Niedermayer are scratched. For the Kings, left wing Kyle Calder, defenseman Kyle Quincey and forward Brad Richardson…

7:44 PM: After a strong opening shift by the Kings, Ducks defenseman Nathan McIver got the puck outside the left circle and threw a low wrist shot towards the net. He got off a quick wrist shot, beating LaBarbera under his left arm from the bottom of the left circle at 1:46…

7:50 PM: The Ducks capitalize again, this time thanks to LaBarbera. On the play, Ducks center Samuel Pahlsson got to a loose puck behind the net and threw a centering pass from behind the left goal post to winger Todd Marchant, who fired a low wrist shot from high in the left circle, beating LaBarbera through the five-hole (between his leg pads) at 7:12, assisted by Pahlsson and Travis Moen. LaBarbera was in position and saw the shot all the way…he should have been able to make the easy save.

7:57 PM: On the next shift, the Kings took the puck down the ice and off the rush, they got the puck to the front of the net. The puck went back into the slot, but Simmonds was trailing the play and whacked the rebound into the net with Giguere down and out. The goal was Simmonds’ first National Hockey League goal, assisted by Sean O’Donnell and Michal Handzus at 7:45…

8:59 PM: The Kings couldn’t do much with a two-man advantage, but with a one-man advantage, left wing Patrick O’Sullivan got the puck on the goal line to the right of the net, took the puck to right crease and whacked it off the skate of Anaheim defenseman Chris Pronger beating Giguere low. To this point, the Kings have been the better team in the game…

9:29 PM: To open the third period, Kings right wing Dustin Brown chased down a loose puck in the right corner of the Anaheim zone, beating Anaheim superstar defenseman Scott Niedermayer to it. Brown threw a centering pass back to left wing Matt Moulson, who was all alone in the left circle. From inside the left face-off dot, Moulson ripped a wrist shot, beating Giguere in the upper right corner of the net. Assists to Brown and Stoll at 0:51…

9:37 PM: Doughty hurt? Haven’t seen Drew Doughty on the ice for some time now. O’Donnell was just out on the power play with Peter Harrold and Doughty is not on the bench…this does not bode well for the Kings…

9:46 PM: At the 9:40 mark, Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf ran into LaBarbera at left crease. He did not take a hard run at LaBarbera, but he did not slow down or make an attempt to avoid the goaltender. 10:00 PM: Ducks winger Teemu Selanne just took a lead pass at the Kings blue line and blew past Gauther, making him look rather pylon-ish. On a breakaway, Selanne had an easy time beat LaBarbera with a backhand from just outside left crease, high into the net at 15:31, assisted by Ryan Carter and Brad May…

10:05 PM: Frolov scores a long empty-net goal at the 18:48 mark. Update on Doughty is that he has the flu…6-3 Kings is the final score. More in my game recap, including post-game audio from the Kings dressing room.
