He’s not stupid. Rather, he was displaying tact and diplomacy…a sign of maturity…a good thing.

Can you follow up with Doughty after the second day of training camp? He was top dog at the prospect camp and seemed to feel he needed to compliment everyone else. He seemed to state that everyone at the prospect camp were going to be NHL stars. It will be interesting to see how he feels after facing 200 feet of NHL caliber players.

Here is a case where Lombardi is showing his colors. There is a 24 year old player that is probably frustrated that the team he is on is going nowhere. Unless its all about money with the guy, he’s the perfect candidate to go after and build around. Lombardi’s already gotten his high draft pick and is “supposedly” loaded with young talent. He has money he NEEDS to spend, and one of the best young defensemen available – If he doesn’t pursue him, what does it say about the commitment to get better.

The best way to find out will probably be to wait until the UFA period next summer.

We’ll see what happens between now and opening night, but I agree with you. I find it hard to believe that the Kings will have anyone better than Doughty to put in their top six defenseman slots.
