In today’s edition of the Daily News, columnist Steve Dilbeck lashes out at Los Angeles Kings owner Philip Anschutz, calling for him to sell the Kings to an owner who cares about winning.
You can read the story here: It’s Time For The Kings’ Owner To Pass Puck
To be sure, it is awfully hard to argue with anything Dilbeck stated in his column…

It could be worse, would you rather have Al Davis or Georgia F.? IMO both of them have treated LA far worse than a guy needing a tax write off.

Al Davis and the late Georgia Frontiere really aren’t relevant to this discussion. They don’t own the Kings and never have…this was never a question of what would you rather have. The question is what SHOULD be.

Hockey decisions have been the Kings downfall, not an absentee owner. It looks like they (owners) have finally put hockey people in place of hockey decision making. You can blame ownership for not doing that sooner rather than later. Coulds and shoulds are too easy for an opinion piece. He should have provided answers to his “shoulds” instead of just venting like every other King fan.

And prior to Lombardi being hired, many of the “hockey decisions” were made by Anschutz and his right-hand man, Tim Leiweke. Many of those decisions were made for Dave Taylor rather than being made by him. It is quite well-known now that AEG meddled a ton in the decisions being made in terms of hockey operations and player personnel. Leiweke has pretty much admitted that.
