Phoenix Coyotes vs. Los Angeles Kings: In-Game Updates
February 19, 2008 3 Comments
Greetings from the Bob Miller Press Box at Staples Center where the Los Angeles Kings will host the Phoenix Coyotes (7:30 PM PST, televised in Southern California on FSN West) to complete their home-and-home series.
The Coyotes handed the Kings a 4-3 loss in Phoenix on Saturday night, and have won all five meetings between the two teams this season.
Nothing new or important to report yet. We’re about 25 minutes before the teams come out for warm-ups. I’ll have updates as the evening progresses and then a full story, complete with interviews, during the wee hours of the morning or later on Tuesday…
For those of you who may be wondering about the presence of scouts from other National Hockey League teams here tonight, scouts from six teams are on the list to be here (and they all sit right below me in the press box). But don’t let that fool you. The only one who isn’t one of the usual suspects is a scout from the New Jersey Devils…
Looks like it’s going to be Mikael Tellqvist in goal for Phoenix and Jason LaBarbera in goal for the Kings. Referees are Steve Kozari and Dan O’Halloran. Linesmen are Shane Heyer and Jean Morin.
Tonight’s scratches: Phoenix: Matt Jones, Mike Zigomanis; Los Angeles: Brian Willsie, Scott Thornton…
Cammalleri was in the box for holding and Phoenix defenseman Ed Jovonovski fired a point shot that trickled between LaBarbera’s pads. And then Vrbata scores on a breakaway after Dustin Brown coughed up the puck at the Kings blue line. Definitely not a good start for the Kings…we are just 5:06 into the first period…
Still 2-0 at the 16:11 mark. The Kings have been outworked and outhustled badly so far, and are lucky to still be in this game…
2-0 Phoenix after the first period. Quite the ugly period by the Kings…they got outworked for pretty much the entire period…
Second period is underway and little has changed. Phoenix tough guy Daniel Carcillo just made Kings defenseman Kevin Dallman look silly. He spun Dallman around, easily went by him and backhanded the puck past a surprised LaBarbera from the low slot. It was a horrid play by Dallman. 3-0 Phoenix. The Kings just don’t have it tonight…
Phoenix forward Daniel Winnick scores an easy one in front of the Kings net at the 12:40 mark after being left all alone. LaBarbera has not been great tonight, but I have to feel sorry for him. He is not getting much help at all. This game is over for the Kings…
4-0 Phoenix after two periods. More of the same from the Kings in the second period…mostly uninspired play and they got outworked and outhustled badly. They are going to have to completely turn things around in the third just to make it close…
10:00 mark and the Kings have still done nothing in this game. The Coyotes are still outworking them. Where this is especially evident is the front of the Phoenix net. The Kings are never there, allowing Tellqvist to see every shot clearly. He has had a very easy night, courtesy of the Kings…
Kings highlight of the game: Kings enforcer Raitis Ivanans and Carcillo went at it. Carcillo got in a sneaky left that cut Ivanans, but Ivanans got in a real solid right that planted Carcillo on the ice at the 10:37 mark…
Kings got a late power play, but they did nothing with it. Coyotes win, 4-0. More later.

Hey Gann, don’t forget to say hi to Jim Fox for me! =P
I didn’t see him downstairs before the game, so I might not get to do that tonight…
Connie: I saw Jim Fox after the game and told him that you’re a big fan of his and especially his bad jokes. He laughed, but I think he thinks I was just pulling his leg. See? Even he knows how bad his jokes are! :-)
